“#WHEREISTHELOVE,” is a music video that was published September 2016 on “Youtube.” A remix of The Black Eyed Peas song by the same name from 2003. The subject matter of the video released in 2016 focuses on the events happening in today’s time. The group includes multiple celebrities in the U.S. in their video to show the shock that they have about what is going on in our world today. In “#WHEREISTHELOVE,” the message is that the world needs to change from the negativity and heartbreaking truth that we are living in.

The video opens with Will.I.Am sitting in a chair delievering the opening lyrics (07 seconds). The shot is a close up on his face, to draw a significance to the words instead of himself. A close up is a shot from the shoulders up, it is used to show emotion from the subject to the audience. The shot makes the viewer’s senses intensified by watching because their only focus is what the subject is saying and how the subject is acting. In this case Will.I.Am. is delivering the chorus of the song as the opening of the video asking the audience if they understand what is happening to our world. In our world today there are so many disagreements between groups of people and ideas. The presidential race this year has caused a divide in our country between two very wrong candidates and that is highlighted in the lyrics of the video. A$ap Rocky in the lyrics say that the election is a joke, because Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are just trying to best each other, not by making our country better for all. Negativity surrounds our country and the world today because of those people that we put in power. The police force gets called into question during the video, by citing the death of Eric Garner who was killed by police by being choked to death. The color scheme used is very dark monochromatic color wheel; a monochromatic color scheme is one color used in different shades to provide a defined mood, or set feeling/thought to the piece. The video uses the fade away effect, transitioning from one person or image to the other without being abrupt.

(5:05 seconds) The second image chosen is towards the end of the video, when the band is repeating the chorus of the piece, “Where is the love?” There is a group of children of all races represented singing the line in unison, like a choir. Here a medium shot to make the scene more descriptive and meaningful of the children singing to make the video illustrate that our children are being affected by our actions.. A medium shot is used to show an intimate setting from the knees up. In this case, the camera is actually higher than the children, looking down on them to symbolize their youth and need for guidance. Throughout the whole video, the tone of it is very monochromatic. The children are seen wearing dark clothing, in a black room. The background during the video showing the band, celebrities, or children was dark, making the focus of the viewer on the people and what the message of the song is. The addition of the children pulls on the emotions of those watching it because it shows how children are being affected by the choices we make in the world especially in America.

The lyrics in the video have to deal with all the issues going on today. The Black Eyed Peas and others involved in the production of the video are sick of what is happening and want to see change. Because of the different camera angles, color scheme, and the images put in throughout the video the lyrics accurately depict what the group wants the viewers to feel while watching. The context of the images work well with the lyrics and would not be understood well without them. Without the lyrics the video would just be celebrities sitting in a dark room and wouldn’t have the same meaning or serious factor that it does with the words. The video discusses a wide range of recent events that have gone on in the United States and the world. The Black Eyed Peas, want to draw attention to these horrible things and show that they are against what is going on. The audience of the video is the people around America and the surrounding countries that the same things apply to. The group just wants people to get along and to make them stop questioning where world peace is. Race is brought up multiple times throughout the video and how we can not hate everybody that is not the same as us, that would make us all racists. The use of the different shades of black throughout the video are to signify death and sadness of the world; however the singers feel that no one has done their job in trying to fix it. The videos message is strong, and by drawing little attention to themselves during the piece, the audience's’ view is on the words and images described.

In #WHEREISTHELOVE The Black Eyed Peas use their social platform to raise awareness of the injustices, terrorism, and wrongful media attention that is surrounding our world today. By using the different camera angles, color schemes, and types of shot the video helps carry the lyrics in a way to make people watch and actually listening to the message.
