Every time police and people have any type of confrontation we always want to know what did that person do, like the incident when a teenager by the name of Trayvon Martin was killed just because he looked like another person wherein a hood on his head instead of asking both sides of the story. It’s always two sides to any story no matter what the situation. People will always assume that the police are in the right or the person is in the right, so here is my view, my perspective, my two-sides story.

Even though police have the right to protect themselves, people should look at both sides of the story because victims have stories just like the police, people only look at what the police says and not the victim, and policeman think that they are superior and that they can do whatever they want to. My visual motif is the establishing shot. For my first shot I chose the scene where the police are letting Jay Z out of prison and all of the rappers are united together (3:00 minute mark). In the foreground its Jay Z, DJ Khaled out front wearing black and white suits. In the midground its T.I, Future, Yo Gotti and many other rappers also united together. Some people might not see them as a group united rappers other might say that they look like they are trying to challenge the authority of the police. And in the background, it’s a jail wall with wires on top of it like they’re all in the prison yard. The color schemes used are black, white, and gray. The reason I think they use this type of color scheme is because color should not matter so in this video its like the audience is color blind just so they can see a deeper meaning in the song. This scene in the music video is using a wide shot of the subject so it can relate to the black lives matter movement (http://blacklivesmatter.com/). Also the attention that is being wielded is that we as a black community needs to fight for our freedom and unite as one so we can overcome the brutal murders and help fix our nation so we (African Americans) all can live without wondering if we might get shot or killed by policeman because they asked to see our license or just by walking down the street wearing a hoodie. With this motif it helps the audience understand the power of being united together as one instead of handling the situation as individuals. According to my visual text the motif that I chose states “one for all and all for one” because as people we are more powerful as a group then anything “strength in numbers” is the key to change.

My second shot that I chose was the upside down shot of the rappers and policeman having a standoff in front of the prison (3:48). In the foreground there are the rappers facing the policeman. In the midground it’s the policeman facing the rappers with shields, guns, while wearing different types of armor for protection and in the background it’s the prison door which the officers let Jay Z out. This scene uses the same color scheme as the first shot black, white, and gray color scheme. The wide shot is also used again just like the first shot, the only difference is now their upside down. With this shot the viewer can see kind of the same perspective but from the opposite side from the rappers, because my first shot was facing the rappers so the viewers could not see what the officers were doing in that stand point but as the camera switches angles and started to face the policeman now the viewer can have a full picture of what’s going on instead of it being a one sided story. The attention that is being wielded is that the policemen are ready for war ever though they just freed Jay Z they are still showing a sign of hostility toward the rappers by doing their shoulder to shoulder police lineup (the police only do this particular shoulder to shoulder line up when they feel threaten or they are about to try to calm the crowd down by using force) or you could say that the police were just trying to protect themselves, it depends on what type of person are you and how to you look at certain things. Overall this is a perfect shot of what the United States is facing today. Its been happing since the 1900’s decades and decades of African Americans being killed by policeman “just because”. The message is to be united as one because with every dead body come a sad family which leads to anger and revenge that can lead to more killing and shooting on our streets, so now that you see my perspective would you change yours? Or leave it the same.
