Art is something that everyone can connect to, whether it's music, a painting or picture, or even nature. It causes emotion; forces you to feel something whether its happiness or misery, and tells stories that people can relate to. In one particular photograph, a child is trying to help his drunk father stand up. This photograph can create connections to many people as they too could have gone through the same struggles in their lives as they fought the fight between what was right and what was wrong. In this photograph, visual designs express the battle between good and evil.

The factor of color emphasizes the battle between good and evil. In the photograph, the father is wearing black. This represents that he is in a dark place. His hat is also black which signifies that his mind is also consumed with darkness. On the other hand, the child is wearing a jacket in which the sleeves are half white and half red. The white represents purity and cleanliness while the red represents love and life. The father and the child contrast each other as the child represents good and the father represents evil. Additionally, the father is wearing a grey shirt. Grey is a neutral color; it is neither black nor white, however, the closer it is to black the darker it is, and the closer it is to white the purer it is. In this context, the child is tugging at the grey shirt as he tries to pull his father up. This action exemplifies the grey shirt becoming more white as the child tries to pull him up from the evil and towards the good. However, even though the child's sleeves are white and red, the rest of his outfit is dark, which may symbolize that the child is following in his father's footsteps and becoming consumed with darkness. Furthermore, in the background, a brown house with a bright red fence surrounding it is seen. The color brown is dependable which means that the house is solid and stable. The house is also surrounded with a red fence with represents that a house should be surrounded and filled with love and life. The house also contrasts the father's and child's struggle between good and evil. Not only does the factor of color highlight the battle between good and evil, but also the factor of symbolism.

Another factor that further emphasizes the battle between good and evil is symbolism. One of the more dominate elements in the photograph is the bright red fence in the background. A fence is built to keep things out, yet the fence in the photograph is crooked and has gaps between the panels. The crooked panels in the fence are a symbolism of the crooked love and relationship between the father and son. The father acts as the child in this photograph, while the child acts like an adult. Furthermore, the gaps between the panel is a symbol of the evil and darkness that has gotten through the fence to the father. Another element in this photograph is the father's black hat that is on the ground. The hat is a symbol of the father's mind. The hat has fallen off of the father's head and has dropped far away from the father. This symbolizes that the father's mind is distant and detached from anything and everything; it is in an evil place. Additionally, the hat is black, representing the misery and darkness of the father's mind. This contrasts to the hat that the child is wearing. The child's hat is also navy blue, with a hint of read, that represents honor and love. The hat that the child is wearing is on his head and is on backwards, with the front facing behind the boy. This symbolizes the direction that the boy wants to take the father. The child wants to take the father away from his dark mind, and toward the child, who symbolizes purity and cleanliness. The child wants and needs the father to win the battle between good and evil, and finally have a clear and stable mindset. Symbolism is a big factor that helps portray the battle between good and evil, however, the factor of lines also helps portray this message.

Lines is a huge factor that effects the photograph and helps portray the battle between good and evil. The photograph itself is taken at an angle, which creates the image that the background is on a hill. This creates the effect that the father is falling down the hill towards evil while the child is trying to pull him up the hill and towards purity and love. The father's struggles are pulling him down the hill while the child is trying to help the father in the right direction, and away from the darkness that has already consumed the father. The angle of the photograph also creates the image that the father's hat is rolling down the hill, which represents that the father's mind is rolling down the hill and towards evil and darkness regardless of the child trying to pull the fathers body towards purity. The eye-line of the father and boy is also important because the father's head is looking down and the eyes look almost closed, as if he is looking down towards the ground. This shows that the father is defeated and has given up the battle and has let evil and darkness consume him no matter how hard the child tries to help him. He is ashamed of himself. The child's head and eyes are facing the father; all of his focus is on the father. He is focused and determined to help his father towards the good in life. Another important factor is that since they are facing each other, the audience cannot see their face, which indicates that this could be anyone and happen to anyone.

In the photograph, the visual designs of color, symbolism, and lines express the battle between good and evil. This photograph is able to tell a story between and father and child that a lot of people can relate to. A photograph is simply a moment in time. It tells a story of one moment in a person's life, not the entire life. In the battle between good and evil, evil cannot win, and neither can good because it is simply just one moment in one's life. Everyday, a person must always fight to try and do the right thing. The battle between good and evil is an ongoing war.
