Society and the media have a love/hate relationship. The media gives society a window to world events and a chance to feel part of something. However, at the same time, the media is very biased on how it presents details and facts and sometimes leaves out important details. We as a society need to search for the entire truth and all of the answers to the questions that we may ask the media to answer but also learn to take what the media says with a grain of salt. The image uses color, placement, and other visual details to show that the media is not always the only answer to society's questions.

The situation of the homeless man that clearly needs help is hidden by the media. The picture is close enough that society (the figure that the news is manipulating) can see it if we try hard enough but it is far enough to go unnoticed if someone is not looking specifically for it. With the help of the media, we will shift our focus to something else that usually has no significance but it is portrayed in a way that it sounds important. The picture has no real focus on an exact object in the image. This can symbolize the fact that the media blurs everything we see and we can never see the full clear picture. Society just accepts this too; they do nothing to fight it, and that is why the person walking just lets the media move them around whichever way without arguing it.

Black is color of deception and makes people uncomfortable. Most villains are black for this reason. The persona of the media is all black, which gives off a negative connotation to the audience and causes people to immediately look at it and then look towards the rest of the image. This also creates a parallel for real life where society immediately looks to the media for answers to questions that we do not know and then proceeds to look for other sources and possibly find the real truth.

This picture is used in a way to depict how most people are caught up in today's "daily topics" rather than actual social politics that are really dictating the future. It is a great example how the media can serve as a great distraction from what is really important, while at the same time, telling you that it is important. This picture, at the same time, goes a little further by showing you how the media itself is purposely pointing the person's head in the other direction from what seems to be a homeless man that actually needs the other man's attention to be helped. This makes the viewer question if daily media is placed on our TV screens and in our hands for a reason. It causes the audience to ask, 'what if they want to keep us distracted and away from one another and what really matters?' And as a result we as people will continue to be ignorant on actual current events.

Another point is that the media itself has no face. It has no character. This is interesting for the fact that it shows how media has no real substance, it has no identity. Yet we allow something so simple and lackluster to consume so much of our time and lives, rather than educating ourselves. The person sitting down could have been an empty spot or a black figure, like the media, to let audience imagine the situation and have the image hit harder. However, he fits in with the background color, which shows how well the media can blend things to make situations appear different or even non-existent.

One bad thing this picture used that could have been better portrayed was the fact that they decided to place an arrow underneath the foot of the character that is supposed to represent the viewer. This can be misleading in a way because it makes it seem as if we are beneath the media. Placing the arrow at the same level as the media but on the opposing side would have proven more effective. This can be a tactic by the artist, however. It can be seen as we are indeed below the media since it is the thing that feed us information and we blindly follow and believe almost anything that appears in the media or news.

It is also interesting to see how easily the media is distracting the character that represents the viewer. The "viewer" is not fighting the media in anyway in this photo; instead he accepts it as truth and continues to walk. With this picture alone it is a prime example of how we see this picture and would assume it as fact. However, media can also benefit those that are not aware of certain events. It is common for people to assume that the use of media is a completely bad thing, but it is also used to educate. The internet is not this forlorn digital landscape only used to suede and slowly corrupt the minds of the young. It is a tool used to find information and teach. This picture shows just how willingly we are to accept something placed in front of us and take it as fact, rather than questioning why something was put in front of us to begin with.

Through the use of these visual elements, the media has a huge say in what society sees in the world, but society can and should look for their own answers to burning questions. The media is paid to be bias and deceive society, we seem to forget that. Whether it is through visual tactics, misdirection, or flat out deception, the media can alter society's opinions on a subject without us being completely aware of it sometimes. No matter the situation or the location, the media will have their own spin on what is going on.
