Looking at the photo you would conclude that it illustrates a racist police officer attacking a small African American boy. The color palette presented in this photo illustrates a unity, but also a separation that the illustrator may not have intended. Displaying unity, but also separation simultaneously gives the photo an integrating but separating theme, which can be seen can be seen in today's world. The image's purpose may have been to magnify the terror targeted toward African Americans or the racism in America, however I see the unified, but multi-meaning colors, exemplifying our nation in present time.

Regarding the overall image you only see a few colors utilized therefore the same color can be used to represent different things. Red, white, and blue are the main colors causing the image to have a unified tone; they are used in both flags, both people, and even the pack of candy illustrated. Usually images may have certain colors to convey a certain meaning or thing, however in this image colors mean different things. First off, if you observe the heads of both figures in the image you will notice they share something; on both of their heads, they are wearing something white. Although they are the same white color, a hoodie and Ku Klux Klan mask differentiate in too many ways. One is a simple style of clothing that is typically worn by many; while the other is worn to invoke terror on others. The white color is also present on both flags as well. In the American flag, the white stars represent each state of our country. In addition the white in the flag also represents purity and innocence. This can be deflected back to the policemen with the Ku Klux Klan white mask attempting to display the purity they believe in. Also the white hoodie, the little boy wears, can represent the innocence. Moreover, in regards to the flags, the white on the Confederate flag also represents purity and innocence. The way these flags are unified by the same white color, but differ in overall meaning displays how our country can be unified in so many aspects but still differ. We know that the Confederate flag has ties with history but it recently was brought up dealing with an opinion of it having a racist connotation dragging behind it. On the other hand the American Flag is our country's flag displaying the freedom we have, with the stars and stripes magnifying the fifty states we have, and the thirteen colonies from our country's history. Going back to race, even though you maybe the same color, doesn't mean both of you are the same, or view things the same.

Furthermore, another color presented often within image is red. The color is on both the American flag, and the Confederate flag. The color red signifies hardness, but also valor. As said earlier the color is present on both flags, and each flags represents a different meaning. Also red is present in the tiny bag of candy the little boy has in his hand. The valor signified in the red can be displayed through the boy handing the policemen candy. To continue, the other main color in the illustration is blue. Blue is clearly represented in both flags also. Blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice. While blue is present in both flags, but also the policemen. All in all, the way all of these colors are the same, they are on objects that differ in meaning. Together showing an exact description of our nation, or even world, and how there are certain races but we all can differ.

All in all, our nation is very diverse, not with the three same colors, however with a plethora of colors or races. Our country may be diverse, but unified by the mixture of diversity presented. Both flags differ greatly, however are unified by the colors. Even though things may resemble each other, reflect back to this image displaying that differences can be identical in some cases.
