At first glance it can be taken into contest that the message that Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. is trying to relay in "The White House" is that he hopes to bring a stop to segregation and hate throughout the world. In reality King is not trying to only bring an end to segregation through "The World House" but rather display a call to action of the people of the world. King is explaining to the world that in order to thrive and continue successfully as human being we must create a world of peace that all races can thrive together in. "The World House" was presented by King in 1964, a period of time in which much change was occurring in the Civil rights movement including the Civil Rights act of 1964. The Civil Rights act "which ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin, is considered one of the crowning legislative achievements of the civil rights movement" (History, "Civil Rights Act"). Though great movements were being made in 1964 and are still being made today King would not be happy with the world in which we live in today. Through Kings "The World House" speeches overall all message was that as human beings we need to stray away from warlike actions and nuclear development and use our technological advancements for the betterment of society, become more caring of the wellbeing of others rather than living self-centered lives, and come together as one rather than focusing on racial dominance.

Throughout King's speech he refers constantly to the idea that as a human race we are making extreme technological advances that could have never been imaged just forty years previously. King states " One hundred years ago military men had not yet developed the terrifying weapons of warfare that we know today-not the bomber, an airborne fortress raining down death; nor napalm, that burner of all things and flesh in its path" (King 284). King also goes into detail in explaining the effects that guided missiles along with nuclear weapons have had on the destruction of the human society thus far. As a society human beings now live in a world where hand to hand combat is no longer necessary, the possibly has arisen for men to destroy one another with the simple press of a button and the launching of nuclear weapons. Due to this new advancement in technology King is trying to explain that times have forever changed and they will never revert back to the old ways. Humans can no longer live in a world where was is present because of the dangers presented through advancements in technology. Kings overall message trying to be explained through these statements is the human race can no longer afford to fight with one another because ultimately through nuclear war fare it will lead to the demise of the human race. As the leading country in the world America must unite to create peace to help to promote world peace.

King also brings to question how it is possibly that humans living in a world where technology is constantly advancing however there is still poverty seen throughout the world. King states that Americans live in a capitalist society where individuals are able to express themselves individually yet maybe one of the underlying issue is the fact that Americans have such a large opportunity to express individuality. King is not calling for a communist society he simply is pointing out the evident fact that Americans as a whole live self-centered lives. Larger technological advances are able to be made to cause ultimate destruction to the human race yet advancements cannot be made to help end phenomenon such as world hunger. King is trying to make the claim that if we focused less of our time on self-centered acts such as war and more of our time on caring for the wellbeing of others maybe the possibility of world peace and the elimination of poverty would not seem so unreachable. Kings idea is still relevant to today's society. In America today "there is a poverty rate of fifteen percent and there are forty six million people considered to be in poverty" (United States Census Bureau, "Income and Property in the United States"). Though Americans live in a world where differing races are able to civilly attended the same school and enter the work place together we still see separation on an economic level and violence through racial gangs. Since 1964 America has continued to experience nuclear conflicts with other nations. In order to fulfil Kings idea of a world with peace humans must use there intelligence to not continue live self-centered lives but rather improves the lives of all and work towards ending issues such as world hunger and poverty.

As Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominent figure in the Civil Rights movement his counterpart Malcom X was very prominent as well. Malcom X displayed a larger number of his views on how to fix the issues of segregation and racism through his famous speech "Message to the Grass Roots". Malcom X explains through his speech that the African American race would more successfully thrive without the influence from outside races. Malcom X creates a metaphor a very strong metaphor in saying the African American race is like a strong cup of coffee and by "adding cream to their coffee" they are only weakening themselves as a whole (Islam6639. "Grass Roots"). Through this statement Malcom X is trying to explain the idea that the Caucasian race is attempting to hold back African Americans. Malcom X suggest that if African Americans want to succeed they should not pollute their minds with ideas of peace presented through the white man or anyone associated with the Caucasian race including Martin Luther King Jr. However, in Kings "The World House" speech he makes the claim that "All inhabitants of the globe are now neighbors. This world-wide neighborhood has been brought into being as a result of the modern scientific and technological revolutions" (King 285). Americans now live in a world where technology has far surpassed the ability to be hostile towards one another. Trying to separate races will only lead to violence and destruction amongst races. In a world where technology is so rapidly advancing the human race can no longer afford to be involved in conflicts of race leading to war. Kings concept ultimately challenges that of Malcom X by stating that rather than separating further we must now instead come together and create a world of peace. As Americans if egotistical issues such as racial dominance are presented as distractions it will ultimately lead the demise of America's dominance as a whole.

Martin Luther King Jr's "The World House" speech can be at first viewed as an attempt to try and promote the concept of ending racism and segregation in America. In reality King's speech is so much more. It is in fact a call to action to not only the people of the United States but to the people of the world. In King's speech he explains that we have seen more technological advancement in the past sixty years than the world has ever previously seen. Due to the creation of inventions such as nuclear weapons, war can no longer exist among human in order to ensure that the world continues to prosper. In today's society we see the ability to communicate with people across the globe a rapid rates that during the time of the Civil Rights acts seemed unimaginable. (MIT, "A Global Perspective"). Though great strides have been made through technology Americans still experience poverty. King's "The World House" speech shows great relevance to this by explaining that as Americans if we continue to display extreme selfishness by using our increasing intelligence for acts of war instead of solving world issues we will experience great down fall in America. King also differs from the opinions of Malcom X by explaining that because of such vast advancements throughout society issues of race need to come to an end immediately to prevent the ultimate demise of the human race. King's overall message in "The World House" is that as human beings we need to stray away nuclear development and use our technological advancements for the betterment of society, become more caring of others rather than living self-centered lives, and come together as one rather than focusing on racial dominance. It is too late for Americans to turn back to the old ways of society. The only possibility to ensure the prosperity of society is America is to ensure that the world is a grand house where all humans are welcomed by peace just as Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned.
