Malcolm X was a Civil Rights leader of the earliest 20th century who was trying to bring the in house Negros and the field Negros together to go fight the whites in a violent revolution. In the past, the discrimination of most blacks started with slavery, yet all slaves are not equal because there were House Negros and Field Negros. The Field Negros despises the House Negros because the House Negros feels there closer to the owners and they associate with the white culture. The in House Negros felt like they were no different from the white owners and they had power over the field slaves. Overall Malcolm X was fighting for black people to come together and fight the whites because there were not being treated equally. He discusses the same idea on coming together to fight the whites in the Race Problem speech, and in his biography we see his hated for white people develop over time. Slavery ended and discrimination of blacks continued in the 20th century, which led to the Civil Rights Movement. In one of the events was held in Washington that influenced "The Message Grassroots" because the March on Washington was a peaceful protest. Malcolm X wanted a violent resolution between blacks and whites to gain power and to stop peaceful fighting because equality is reached by violence Malcolm X was a different type of Civil Rights leader criticized by Martin Luther King Jr., however, he changed the way America sees race and helped gain equality through his speeches.

In order to better understand his speech "The Message Grassroots" we can look at the biography of Malcolm X where he was largely influenced by the teaching of Islam. Malcolm X took a more militant, aggressive approach to ending white nationalism the march on Washington does the opposite of what Malcolm X wanted by the march being peaceful for example "the march was noted for its civility and peaceful"(Ross 2). Malcolm X felt the march stood for everything he did not believe in because blacks and whites were working together to get the civil rights to pass. "The Grassroots" speech was influenced by his belief that the march "presented an inaccurate, sanitized pageant of racial harmony"(Ross 2). This statement lead Malcolm X to show that racism still occurs but the blacks felt that the Civil Rights Act would make them equal. Malcolm X was an important Civil Rights leader, because he influenced the black community to rise above racism, in a time of inequality. He also spoke about black unity among slaves and found an organization of African American unity. He preached about black self-determination and bringing his race together to fight the whites. In the "Race Problem" speech he states the in house slaves were willing to be a part of the white culture which people see when the House Negros say " We" as if they were a apart of the white culture, So now it is the 20th Century and some blacks are still saying their a part of the white culture.

Malcolm X in the "Grassroots" speech is trying to get blacks to come together and fight a revolution. He believes that the blacks need to kill the whites because they have too much power. In his biography it talks about his family problems with his house being burned down and how his dad received death threats from whites and he was eventually killed. So with him and his family going through those things you can see where his pain and anger come from. He joins the nation of Islam where he was "taught that white society actively worked to keep African Americans from empowering themselves and achieving political, economic, and social success" ("An abridged biography", 2015, p.1). His religion helps us understand the "Grassroots' speech because the whites are taking away the blacks freedom. Therefore he is more aggressive trying to overpower the whites.

In this speech his tone is angry because he has been through bad and harmful things with the whites, also in his religion he was taught that whites are taking away blacks freedom. The people who followed him felt that the whites were treating blacks different by accepting the blacks that were peaceful blacks the obeyed what they said, however the whites punished the blacks who did not do what they was told which caused racial unrest. The white police used attacked dogs and firehouses against protesters (Ross). The whites are being violent to the blacks and Malcolm X wants to retaliate with violence. Martin Luther King presents a whole new different side by saying "all men one day will be brothers" ("United States History" 1). Malcolm X responds to Martin Luther King by giving "The Grass Roots" speech to show people that theirs no equality and the blacks and whites cannot live peacefully.

"The Message to Grassroots" speech and Malcolm X "Revolutionize the black mind, transforming docile Negros and self-effacing colored people into prod blacks and self-confident African-Americans"(Cone 1189). Malcolm X influenced the blacks to have confidence and to stand up to the whites and he wanted them to love themselves before others. Martin Luther king wanted the Civil Rights Act to happen but he wanted change peacefully but having debates and talking it out with the whites however Malcolm x believe that if the blacks did not fight for freedom they will not have freedom. Malcolm stated," you cant upon freedom, you either fight for it or shut up"(Cone 1189). In this time period the blacks felt the whites wanted equality and that's why they passed the Civil Rights Act yet Malcolm did not trust the whites and wanted the blacks to see that it was not any equality.

The Civil rights leaders philosophy was to make change peacefully with no violence and they were trying to get blacks to love their enemy. Malcolm X disagree with Martin Luther king idea to love the enemy in the statement," It is not possible to love a men who chief purpose in life in to humiliate you and still be considered a normal human being" (Cone 1189). At first the Civil Rights leaders pushed him away because they thought he was too aggressive and they didn't want him speaking because they were not interested in violence. The Civil Rights leaders did not want him to be apart of this whole movement because they did not want to see him with power. The fear of Malcolm X was that he wants violence, which would lead to a war and the separation between blacks and whites. The March on Washington was the political demonstration and it was held by civil right leaders to protest racial discrimination ("United States History"). It was " an interracial assembly of more than 200,000 people gathered peacefully to demand equal justice for all citizens under the law" ("United States History" 1). This March was not effected by the violence of Malcolm X but brought black and whites together.

Malcolm X is responding the peaceful the civil rights leaders, like Martin Luther King Jr. when he gives "the Grassroots" speech. Malcolm X is fighting for a revolution between blacks and whites because it is the only way to get the message across. Overall his biography and the "Race problem" speech showed Malcolm X hated the whites and how whites were powerful; both the biography and speech support the "Grassroots" speech and help the audience understand Malcolm X's point of view about the white supremacy. According to Malcolm X, it is only if the people like the House Negros and the people like the Field Negros come together to fight the whites and cause a revolution that the blacks and whites would be equal, however peaceful protest will continue to lead to more discrimination.
