     In modern world, people transmit and receive information through both traditional communications and modern communications. Traditional communications refer to face-to-face way of communicate and voice interaction. Well modern communications are involved the medium to communicate such as newspaper, poster, internet and so on. Written texts and visual texts are the most common way to spread information. I think visual texts are more persuasive to audiences than written texts. In this advertisement, we can notice the importance of a visual text

   As a purpose of an advertisement, it should get people's attentions to its contexts and persuade them. This advertisement tries to get public awareness about needing more real charity supports in reality rather than hitting "like" on Facebook. On this image, little blue and white thumbs-up icons on Facebook became people's real hands that surround this poor lady who is desperate because a boy is dying on her arms. The colors of this image are black and white. Human's eye capture color first rather than others. There is a term called inattentional blindness, "The reality is that attention plays a major role in visual perception ... .is a psychological phenomenon known as inattentional blindness." For example, as we know that "Exit" sign is always red, "Enter" sign is always green, however, if we switch the words and make "Exit" sign green, and "Enter" sign red, people won't notice while they passing the door. Therefore, choosing color for image is the most important part. On this advertisement, black and white color give audiences serious feeling and make them pay more attention to its contexts and its implications.

   On this image, it makes a point by putting the virtual icon "like" to reality which is people's hand with thumb-up. People may not aware that they hit likes on Facebook while they hiding behind their screen. Things on internet are virtual but they have huge impact on reality, but we don't realize it.  People try to make a statement by hit likes on Facebook after someone posted this image. It is a good motive but in real life we are looking for more tangible support.

  There is a context on this image "liking isn't helping". This written text is more likely an interpretation of the visual text. And its white color makes audiences easy to capture. While audiences look this image, they feel sympathy. The boy on this image, there are blood on his pants and his seems like couldn't be able to breath. The poor lady has her hand on the boy's face and tried to bring him back. The audiences couldn't be able to see the lady's face, but can assume she is crying. It supposes to be a sad image, but there are people with thumb-ups around them, which it presented in satirical terms that people are not doing real things in reality rather than hit like on Facebook behind their screens.

In social psychology, there is explanation on how people are influenced by others to follow them and doing the same thing which is called herd mentality. To be exact, the herd mentality is more focus on people and their peers, but with the influence of internet, everyone is involved with the influence.  One people hit like, two people hit like, and then others would follow the pattern. It might be an unconsciousness act, but it actually has impacts. A lot of people are not realize and didn't have awareness on such thing. This visual advertisement actually brings awareness to the public that people who need help in society are hoping for real action rather than virtual action.  

The way human receives information from outside world by looking at them. The point of getting audiences to receive message and bring the awareness on social issues, the best way is to make them accept it more easily. Therefore, written text is not more persuasive than a visual text.
